Deadlifts are a very complex workout. This is one of the reasons it's so good for you. Its debatably the best lift you can do. There is a catch however, the deadlift can be dangerous if its not done right. When I was a high school powerlifting I hitched a lot of lifts that would have been personal records (PR's). I also see many other new lifters doing this. I am trying to prevent future injures for these new lifters. With better form many injuries can be prevented. I'm sure there are many ways you can prevent hitching, here is what I recommend. Do heavy rack pulls. A rack pull is a deadlift wear the weight is pulled from just below or above your knees. This can be done in the squat rack with the deadlift bar resting on the safety bars. When doing these you can add more weight then your normal deadlift. This will condition your body to handling heavier weight at the 2nd half of the lift. This will allow you to lockout more weight then you have before without hitching. After you have mastered the rack pull then try lifting your PR, there should be no problem with hitching. This was what I did in high school and I didn't hitch the weight again.
